The fine print
Most sites split this into four documents written by nobody and read by no one. We'd rather put the whole thing on one page in language you'd actually use, because every item below is something a reader might reasonably want to know before trusting a command they found on the internet.
Affiliate disclosure
TuxTone has exactly one commercial relationship: Krisp. If you follow our Krisp link and subscribe, Krisp pays TuxTone a referral fee, and the price you pay is the one krisp.ai sets. That link appears in two places — the Krisp on Linux page and a clearly bordered box on the stack guide — and it is marked with a disclosure sitting next to the button, not buried here.
Every other tool on this site — EasyEffects, RNNoise, PipeWire, NoiseTorch, the RNNoise LADSPA plugin, OBS Studio, ffmpeg, SoX — is free software with no affiliate programme. We have no relationship with those projects, financial or otherwise, and links to them are plain links labelled "no affiliate relationship". If that arrangement ever changes, this paragraph changes first.
The commands
Everything on this site is published in good faith, tested where we could test it, and provided without warranty of any kind. You are pasting commands into your own machine, under your own account, at your own risk. We take that seriously enough to design around it: our configuration advice uses drop-in files rather than edits to system configuration, so a bad outcome is fixed by deleting one file; our audio-cleanup commands always write to a new file rather than overwriting your original; and where a step is genuinely hard to undo, we say so in the step.
Software changes. A command that was correct on the date stamped at the top of a page may not be correct on the day you read it. The dates are there precisely so you can judge that for yourself.
Privacy, briefly
This is a static site: hand-written HTML files served as files. There are no accounts, no comment system, no newsletter, and nothing here asks you for an email address. We self-host our fonts rather than loading them from a third party, so reading this page doesn't announce your visit to anyone else.
We do use privacy-respecting analytics to see which pages get read, in aggregate — page paths, referrers, rough geography, the usual coarse counts. We don't sell data, we don't run advertising networks, and we don't build profiles of individuals. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal or you use a content blocker, nothing on this site will fight you about it, because nothing here depends on tracking you.
Trademarks and other people's names
Linux is a registered trademark of Linus Torvalds. Krisp, PipeWire, PulseAudio, OBS Studio, EasyEffects, RNNoise, NoiseTorch, ffmpeg and SoX are the names and marks of their respective owners. We use them descriptively, to tell you what software we're discussing. None of these projects or companies endorses TuxTone, has reviewed it, or is affiliated with it.
Our own content
The words, tables and scoring script on this site are ours. Quote us, link us, argue with us — that's what publishing is for. If you're going to reproduce a page wholesale, please link back instead. And if you republish one of our verified facts, carry the verification date with it; a dated fact that travels without its date is how this niche got into the mess we spend most of our time correcting.
Corrections
If something here is wrong or has gone stale, it should be fixed rather than defended. Our method, our sources and how we handle corrections are described on the about page.
